'Mannie' is a dog that has shown presence and class from a young pup. He is a good looking springer, powerful with lots of hunting drive but extremely good natured and easy. He is a keen retriever and has a lovely natural sitting delivery. Mannie was a very straight forward dog to train, intelligent and kind with good gun sense.
Despite my horrendous nerves I ran Mannie in his first trial for the Scottish Spaniel Club on rabbits and he won 'on ice' in very good company. Due to my inexperience I then gave him to my spaniel mentor and good friend Jeremy Organ to run in Opens. Unfortunately he proved to be a handful on pheasants and cover and did not like being managed by his new handler, he did however gain a 3rd place in an Open stake.
After having Mannie back from Jeremy for the rest of the season picking up, my friend Paul persuaded me to part with him, a difficult decision. He's living in the house and is a full time picking up and rough shooting dog, I can borrow him to work if necessary and he comes here for his holidays, a great compromise!
Mannie has that great ability to catch the eye on any type of ground, he looks stylish and neat on white grass and rashes with a low to the ground body action yet attacks cover with amazing courage, you will not find a braver dog in brambles.
